About One Smart Dollar

Sean Bryant

Money shouldn’t be complicated, but too often, it is. That’s why I started One Smart Dollar back in 2011. I wanted to help everyday people make smarter choices with their money, without the confusing financial jargon.

After graduating with a degree in Economics from the University of Iowa, I started my career in the finance world. First at RJO Futures, a commodities brokerage firm, then at Zacks Investment Research. But I quickly realized something was missing. While I loved learning about the markets and money, I wanted to help real people, not just institutions.

During the Great Recession, I began building websites on the side, turning what started as a hobby into a full-time business. Over the past decade, I’ve built and sold several successful affiliate and content sites, all focused on personal finance and helping people improve their financial lives.

Today, One Smart Dollar is where I share everything I’ve learned along the way. From earning more through bank bonuses and more innovative savings strategies to understanding CDs, checking accounts, and investing for the future.

My goal is simple. To make money management approachable and actionable for everyone, whether you’re saving your first $1,000 or growing a six-figure portfolio.

When I’m not writing about money, you’ll usually find me on the golf course, planning my next trip, or spending time with my family in Denver, Colorado.

A few things One Smart Dollar covers:

  • Bank bonuses and promotions that help you earn free cash
  • Savings strategies like CDs, high-yield accounts, and interest optimization
  • Practical investing guides written in plain English
  • Money tips that actually fit real life

Because managing money shouldn’t feel like a chore, it should feel empowering.
