Benefits of Working Remotely

by Sean Bryant on August 30, 2012

Ever since the recession began a few years ago, companies have been looking for ways to help reduce overhead costs. One of the best ways to do this is allow employees to work remotely. This will help to cut down on office costs. Check out the following infographic for other benefits to remote working.

Cool infographic. I think it takes a special person to work from home. I do it, and know that there’s constantly temptation to do something else. On the other hand, I also have to remember to get up and walk around sometimes because I’m so comfortable at home and there isn’t anyone else here to bother me!

I’ve found that some companies have adopted the work from home scenario quite quickly and understand the benefits, and other companies are not interested at all. Most Canadian companies rarely allow their employees to work from home, or if they do, it is only for one or two days of the work week. The last corporation I worked for used the excuse that they felt if they let people work at home they would all become slackers. They felt that everyone needed to be micro-managed or they wouldn’t do any work. So they continue to pay rent and all of the other expenses for their huge downtown office buildings just so they can babysit their employees.

I work from home but we also have a main office location where I can meet with clients. I also meet with clients at their home as well as 6 different office locations throughout the city that we rent out as needed. It’s brilliant and I love it.

Ahhh, I love infographics! I’m a freelancer, but one of my companies is considering bringing me on fulltime – and if they did, I’d work remotely (the company is in a different state). They’d also let me set my own hours, which is great, because 9-5 doesn’t work when you are taking care of two kids!

I feel like with all the emails and mobile phone communication I do, I would have no problem working remotely. Too bad its not an option at my company.
